Treatment of Knee Diseases

Knee Arthroplasty

Knee arthroplasty is a solution when conservative treatments fail to relieve the constant pain and daily mobility is significantly limited. The procedure replaces worn joint surfaces with artificial implants, offering a better quality of life.

In cases of advanced osteoarthritis, total knee arthroplasty is performed. When only one compartment of the knee is affected, unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement is preferred, targeting only the damaged area. Modern medicine offers personalized solutions, including custom-made 3D implants, advanced materials such as chromium, cobalt, and oxinium, and surgical techniques designed to minimize soft tissue trauma.

Intervention procedure

The procedure involves a 15 cm incision at the front of the knee and typically lasts 1 to 1.5 hours. Patients begin mobilization on the same day, bearing full weight on the operated leg, and usually remain in the clinic for 1 to 3 days. Postoperative care includes physiotherapy to prevent adhesions, along with the use of compression stockings and anticoagulants to reduce the risk of thrombosis. Dr. Nikolaos Sachinis specializes in advanced knee arthroplasty techniques, delivering excellent outcomes.
