Elbow Condition Treatment
Arthroscopy for Posterolateral Instability
Arthroscopic repair of posterolateral elbow instability is an advanced and highly specialized technique performed by Dr. Nikolaos Platon Sahinis, with excellent success rates. This minimally invasive method offers a definitive solution for instability, particularly suited for athletes, professionals, and individuals with recurring elbow issues caused by overuse or previous injuries. This condition is often misdiagnosed as “tennis elbow,” though the underlying cause is frequently posterolateral instability, especially following dislocations or ligament tears. If left untreated, it can progress to chronic tendinopathy, cartilage damage, and arthritis, leading to significant pain and restricted motion.
Diagnosis and Treatment:
Accurate diagnosis includes clinical evaluation, MRI imaging, and, when necessary, diagnostic arthroscopy. In the early stages of instability, biological treatments such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may offer temporary relief. However, if a tear of the lateral ulnar collateral ligament is confirmed, the most effective solution is arthroscopic ligament reconstruction. The procedure is performed under light general anesthesia and takes approximately 50 minutes. Patients are typically discharged the same day, wearing a specialized elbow brace for three weeks. Gradual loading begins after brace removal, with full return to athletic and professional activities expected within six weeks.
